How to Keep Your Pets Safe While Driving

Heartworm season is upon us!  Warrenville Grove Animal Hospital has had seven dogs test positive for heartworm in the last twelve months; including a few cases that were given heartworm preventative last year on a sporadic basis.

Missing a few monthly heartworm preventative doses, or stopping treatment too early in the season can result in your pet being infected with heartworm by a mosquito bite.

Local coyote populations are infected with heartworm, which provide hosts for mosquitoes to spread heartworm to your pets.  Even dogs that live mostly inside are susceptible to mosquito bites.

The treatment for heartworm is not only expensive ($700-$1000), it can be dangerous for your dog.

With the change in the weather, now is the time for heartworm testing and to start heartworm preventative.
